We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. Romans 12:6
The book of Romans talks about gifts God has bestowed on each of us but that our individual gifts can’t singly do the work that Christ requires of His Saints.
Thankfully, people whose gifts and strengths are completely different from ours help to balance our weaknesses, and their abilities make up for our deficiencies. Only by using our gifts together can we be truly useful to Christ.
Recently the apartment building I live in was having a new roof installed while tearing up the old leaky one.
I have been amazed at all the skilled Gifts the Lord had given these men and women who tackled it with vigor and accomplished the task in record time of less than a week.
I marveled at the way a skilled truck driver backed up a tractor trailer with a huge dumpster attached and placed it with exact precision into the spot he had fenced off to receive it. I actually went out to watch him do this as he worked in perfect harmony as if God was lifting it up and gently placing it where he wanted it to be. I marveled while giving him a big “thumbs up” which I felt he really enjoyed the fact that someone recognized his skills. How many times has he done this without anyone caring or noticing his gift. I felt he made my day and I think I made his!
Lord Jesus thank you for showing me the different skills you have bestowed on hard working men and women as it makes for such an interesting life far from just sitting in my comfortable armchair.
All congregations have different gifts bestowed upon them from God. Gifts like teachers who can handle large amount of children when I find I do best with one on one.
Musicians, singers and entertainers who lead us in song and dance as David danced bringing the tabernacle of God into Jerusalem with joy beyond measure to those listening, watching and taking part in the celebration. Those with the skills and patients to work with the youth and teens as they encourage them through the difficult years of adolescence into adulthood.
Painters, carpenters, gardeners, those skilled at fixing a variety of things that break or wear out and need replacing. How precious their gifts to those in need of renewing our surroundings, building and repairing our homes or so many things that are too numerous to list here.
Gardening is a wonderful skill that brings beauty to our landscape and succulent fruit and vegetables to our tables.
There are those skilled in cooking, baking and other culinary foods that delight the eyes and melt in the mouth goodness to the palate.
What about those gifted in finances to help those of us not as comfortable with numbers as they are with letters or words. Thankfully for those who have someone in their families that have that gift in order to teach it to those of us struggling in that department.
Electronic Geniuses that make it so enjoyable for us to understand and see with our eyes what is being said with the mouth. The computers and smart phones give us the ability to see what is happening around the world which helps me understand how every eye will see you Lord when you return to usher in the new millennium.
The Gift of organization has been bestowed on many that help us to see things in an orderly way. Such as the library or administrative assistants to name a few. I know of someone who called themselves the “Filing Queen” because she loved to file! Now that is one gift I admire when I look at my files and piles!
I could go on and on singing the praises of those God has gifted us to help people through the hardships and trials of this earthly life while bringing delight to our everyday problems.
At Riverside we are blessed beyond measure with God’s gift of “Preachers and Teachers” of His word. God is using our Pastors and men and women in ways that leave me and the rest of the congregation at Riverside, blessed beyond measure. And the good thing is, they are just getting warmed up!
This is just a short list from our amazing God who loves variety and is so creative we can’t begin to understand, as it is so far beyond our abilities.
We can only look in awe and thankfulness to all the tools and people with skills using these gifts so well that He has provided as we navigate our day to day lives.
Thank you Lord for giving me a glimpse once again on what you have provided for we needy souls here on earth.
